In this improvisational dance class, students will explore: What is rage? What are its various tones, textures and subtleties? Is there something that lies beneath this fierce and frenetic energy? Is there something your rage is trying to tell you or protect you from? Through dance, we engage in self-defense and group empowerment exercises that give our rage a voice and body through which to speak. Instead of resisting rage, we move with it to focus its energy and remember its creative potential.
5pm: The Suzuki String Quartet
The Suzuki String Quartet features 4 premier high school musicians from the Burlington, VT area. They have been playing together for years through both the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association (VYOA), and the Vermont Suzuki Violins (VSV). They have all participated in a wide variety of musical activities, including the VT All-State and New England Music Festivals, the Back to Bach Project, Young Traditions VT, and more. This group has played together for one year under the coaching of Ira Morris.
Dance Playground is an improvisational dance class for all bodies and all levels of experience. Improvisational dance uses "scores" rather than 8 count choreography. A "score" is a set of instrucitons. I like the analogy of a playground: a playground gives a structure in which to play, but how you play on it is up to you. You can expect: a guided warm up, movment socres solo, in pairs and groups, and time to rest. We will build our skills of listening with out bodies, responding in the moment and composing as an ensemble.
“soft rocks” is a sound and movement collective, offering live experimental music and dance performances - a mystery every time! Committed to the artistry of improvisation, the group has been working together since late summer 2023. We craft immersive performances dedicated to each space, using varying scores that have been created and gathered within the group.
Marble Valley Dance Collective is performing at Poultney Arts Day. We will be dancing at 5:30 as part of the @dusk in Main St. event which includes dance and live music. This year's theme is "Painting Main Street with Creativity."
