Joe Cabrera is a Lighting Designer working in the greater New York City, Boston, and Vermont areas.
Joe teaches design for theatre with Technical Artisans Collective (TAC) and is the Design & Technical Theatre Mentor at Dwight School in the Upper West Side.
He is also a proud member of La Gente (lagentenetwork.com) and USITT (usitt.org).
As a designer, his view is that every design must have a unique and firmly grounded narrative.
Only through collaboration with a production's team can this narrative reach its full visionary potential.
With his work, he strives to increase the visibility, engagement, and advocacy for Latinx and BIPOC individuals.
Joe has experience in lighting for theatre, opera, dance, private and corporate events, fashion, art galleries, and film. He has also spent over 15 years training in classical singing, piano, dance, musical theatre, and acting. He has also attended the MFA program in Design for Stage and Film at NYU Tisch.
In his free time, you can find Joe gardening, hiking, camping, and exploring with his wife, toddler, and newborn. Otherwise, he’s typically biking around town, visiting a museum/art gallery, or playing a variety of board games.
